The Cast of 'Encanto' and Meet the Voices Cast: Your Guide to Who's Who

This film is a fantasy musical produced by Walt Disney Picture and accompanies the thirty-fifth animated feature film by Walt Disney Animation Studios scheduled to be worldwide released in 2021. The picture ‘Encanto’ was directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and Charise Castro Smith, in her feature film directorial debut, as co-director. Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer produced the film while the musical score for the film was done by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Germaine Franco’s services were also used in the editing of certain pieces of music for the film.

Encanto Characters Voice cast:

Stephanie Beatriz announces it was a personal project attended by many other actors aside from hIm. For this, she appeared dressed in purple hair and parent movies.

Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel Madrigal: the 15-year-old who holds the central role in the story but still hasn’t gained any special traits from the family, unlike all of them. “Imperfect, and weird, and quirky, but also emotional and incredibly understanding,” is how director and co-writer Jared Bush chose to think of her.

María Cecilia Botero as Abuela Alma Madrigal: Mirabel’s grandmother, 75 when the story takes place and a matriarch of the entire family. Her full name is never mentioned in the film and she is addressed as Abuela which means grandmother in Spanish.

Originally, Abuela’s character was voiced by Olga Merediz while singing. Botero also does the voice of the same character in the Spanish version of the film. In that version though, it is Yaneth Waldman who does the singing for that character.

Portraying the role of Bruno Madrigal is John Leguizamo. He is actually Mirabel’s uncle, but has apparently been in hiding for some years hence has not been seen. He has the power of precognition and wind manipulation. Between these two characters, there is also a Bruno who is known as Hernando and Jorge in the film.

Felix Madrigal is a character voiced by Mauro Castillo who is also known as an Uncle to Mirabel, the target, and son to Pepa. Bush describes Felipe saying that ‘he is just there to have fun’. Castillo has also done the voice over for this character in the Spanish version of the trumpet film.

Dolores Madrigal by the voice of Adassa. A 21 year old double daughter of Pepa and Félix, a sister to Camilo and Antonio, and a cousin of Mirabel who is quite a sharp listener.

Mariano Guzman is a character voiced by Maluma who is said to be engaged with Isabela. Once more, Maluma is heard in the Spanish version of the film, his role being the same.

Production: Development

In 2019, the international event known as the San Diego Comic Conference had Lin-Manuel Miranda in attendance for the promotion of His Dark Materials at the convention hall in San Diego, California. Lin Manuel Miranda in the year 2019. Much later, in the course of a promotional tour that primarily aimed at the animated feature Moana, which was released in November 2016, Miranda went on to announce that the research for a motion picture which the Lasseter had pitched him a while ago together with Howard had already commenced.

Rephrase synonymic:

Lin Manuel Miranda was on hand for the His Dark Materials promo at the San Diego Convention Center, when he attended the San Diego Comic Conference 2019. Lin Manuel Miranda, in the year 2019. Much later, during the course of a promotional tour targeting the animated feature Moana which was released in November 2016, Miranda went on to disclose that work had commenced on a motion picture which the Lassiter had pitched to him long ago together with Howard.

This was after Howard and Bush had finished working on Zootopia (2016), whereby, it was pretty clear that they wanted their next project to be a musical which later changed into a Latin-American musical after Miranda came in. Howard and Bush were accustomed to making farces “where two people in the film work, then go travelling, and get to know each other” so they were ready for something “entirely different”. The trio of men also pondered about their experiences of extended families, and they resolved to do a musical film centering on a big extended family with a dozen leading roles.

Screenwriting:

As the plot thickened in the film with an entire family to develop, songs to add, and a cultural setting rich in magical realism, Howard and Bush came to the conclusion that they needed another screenwriter to assist with the development of the screenplay. She was chosen because of her impressive resume on works about magical realism and her ability to navigate the ‘real-world family dynamics’. Bush expressed her opinion by saying, “she was an absolute blessing. She was incorporating this core element of love, weakness, and honesty in her to be the tongue in cheek.” Castro Smith wanted to portray a rather different, flawed but realistic character called Mirabel, one that would resonate with many Latinas while making sense to the audiences all over.

From working on Moana, Miranda knew that film’s protagonist- Moana, at first had eight brothers, but they were deleted to make the movie work better. As Miranda forecasted from that experience, Disney Animation was very reluctant to go ahead with Encanto having more than 12 central characters. Miranda instinctively composed the film’s first song “The Family Madrigal,” in a bid to convince Disney Animation, that it is feasible to present such a large family along with its relations, and how it connects with them, to the audience. Given the film’s 90-minute length problem, the filmmakers faced the challenge of making the central family convincing, three-dimensional, and relatable with proper character development.

Casting:

Disney employed multiple actors of Colombian descent, such as Stephanie Beatriz, whose dad was born in Colombia; John Leguizamo, a native of Bogota; and Wilmer Valderrama, who lived in Colombia as a child where his mother is from.Even though there were no clear roles which he could dub, considering the Columbia origin of the Madrigals and in irrefutable fact, there is no animal sidekick to Mirabel, Alan Tudyk’s whom most people would refer to as “a lucky charm” casts a cameo appearance as Pico, a toucan. The first thing Tudyk did when he entered the recording studio was to tell the people that the scratch voice recorded of Pico was done by parrots not toucans as was being assumed. This is because he had spent so many hours sculpting his own version of various toucan species. He was addressed in English, and instead of words, captivating sounds of a toucan were used by Tudyk in his attempt to communicate.

Design:

In a number of ways, the film Encanto was the biggest challenge to the heads of animation Renato dos Anjos and Kira Lehtomaki, as a lot of characters had to be designed – a dozen of them in this regard, unlike most animated films which have two or three main characters and many others playing minor or supporting roles. For that reason, the characters deserved more depth than what has been done by Disney Animation. Journalist Edna Liliana Valencia Murillo provided significant input as an Afro-Caribbean consultant in the designs of the characters, Félix, Dolores and Antonio. In other words, Howard says, there were a few of the characters who had to wear Afro Latin hairstyles. Ian Gooding and Lorelay Bové were hired by Disney as the production designers for this picture. As much as Lorelay and her sister, head of costume design Neysa Bove, try to lose the film’s communities. Thus, Neysa was in search of Colombian consultants who included an anthropologist and a botanist.

Soundtrack

In June of 2019, Miranda revealed that he would also begin composing the film’s score which would contain eight original tracks in Spanish and English. After the film was released, he revealed that he had started writing songs for the film long before. On September 8, 2021, Germaine Franco, the co-music composer for Coco (2017), began working on the score for the film.

Cinematography

After the release of the animated feature Tangled by Walt Disney Animation studios in the year 2010, Encanto becomes the second animated film ever to thoroughly adopt the tall frame. This particular approach allows us, as Howard noted, to come “closer to the characters.” This layout came along with the so-called romantic lighting. This was also due to Howard in that he made use of the word romantic in a rather raised spirit in reference to the cinematography and lighting of that film. Once again, because of the writing and characters some aspects of the film were influenced by enchantment realism.

Future:

Regarding the possibility of a series for Disney+, Jared Bush and Charise Castro Smith are both receptive. Bush said he would not mind seeing a show about any member of the family, while Castro Smith revealed that Miranda was particularly excited about making a show with Dolores in it. Disney’s then-CEO Bob Chapek referred to Encanto as the newest franchise in the company, during an earnings call in February 2022.
